THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will send additional police personnel to Lanao del Sur to help secure the province.
According to PNP Director for Operations and Security Task Force-National and Local Elections 2022 Deputy Commander Police Major General Valeriano de Leon, this is for the holding of special elections in 14 barangays in Lanao del Sur.
De Leon did not mention a specific number of the augmentation force that will be deployed but said that he is already in coordination with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) with regard to security issues.
Based on initial information, around 8 million voters from 14 barangays failed to vote during the May 9 polls.
These barangays are in the towns of Binidayan, Butig, and Tuburan in Lanao del Sur where a failure of elections was declared.
The Comelec said the special elections in Tuburan will be held on May 24, 2022.
