AN infectious disease expert said they have not seen any indication of any surge in COVID-19 cases happening one week after the national and local elections held last week.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, Dr. Edsel Salvania said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country remains low and manageable, same with cases that became severe and critical.

He said they also do not see any problem with regard to healthcare capacity or healthcare utilization rate since it is still at minimal or low-risk levels.

Because of this, Salvania believes that there is no reason to impose strict guidelines or to increase the alert level, even if there are new Omicron sub-variants being discovered.

The most important thing, he said, is for the public to continue observing and complying with minimum public health standards such as wearing of face masks or vaccination, including taking booster shots.
