More than 50k dengue cases reported in the country

THE number of dengue cases in the country reached 51,622 from January 1 to June 18, 2022.

Overall, the Department of Health (DOH) said this is 58-percent higher compared to the 32,610 dengue cases reported in the same period in 2021.

Region 3 topped the list of most dengue cases with 6,641 or 13 percent of the total, Region 7 with 6,361 (12 percent) and Region 9 with 4,767 or 9 percent

For May 8 to June 18, 2022, the DOH said 13,075 cases were recorded, where Region 3 and Region 7 against topped the list with 1,826 (14 percent) and 1,570 (12 percent), respectively, while the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) recorded the third highest number of cases for the period mentioned with 1,175 (9 percent).

Regions 4-B (MIMAROPA), 6, 7, 9, 11, VI, VII, IX, XI, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and CAR showed an increasing trend from May 8 to June 18, 2022.

Meanwhile, 15 out of 17 regions (Regions 2, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 5. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, BARMM, CAR, and the National Capital Region or NCR) exceeded the alert/epidemic threshold for the past four weeks, or from May 8 to June 18, 2022.

A total of 239 deaths were also reported, with a Case Fatality Rate of 0.5 percent. These deaths were reported in January with 40, February with 37, March with 34, April with 47, May with 62, and June: with 19.

The DOH continues to remind the public to observe and practice the “4S” strategies – For preventive and control actions, the public is reminded to continuously observe and practice the following 4S strategies: Search and destroy breeding places, Secure self protection, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
