TWO more members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were included in the list of COVID-19 fatalities.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce today the death of two more police personnel which bring the total deaths in the PNP to 84,” PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar said.
According to a report from the PNP Health Service (PNPHS), PNP patient 83 is a 51-year-old Police Lieutenant assigned in Tuguegarao City.
On July 23, he went to the clinic for consultation because of fever, body malaise and sore throat. On the same date, he underwent laboratory examination and RT-PCR tests.
On July 25, the result of his swab test yielded positive results and was advised to proceed to their quarantine facility. On July 27, he experienced difficulty in breathing and was hooked to oxygen inhalation. On July 30, his condition worsened and around 4:00 a.m., he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
Meanwhile, patient 84 was a 42-year-old police staff sergeant assigned in Camp Crame. On July 6, the police officer was hospitalized due to kidney malfunction and yielded negative result of COVID-19 upon his admission.
On July 13, he repeated the RT-PCR test which yielded a positive result. He was then transferred to the hospital’s COVID ward.
On July 29, he experienced difficulty in breathing and was intubated but later on succumbed.
“Lubos po akong nakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating mga namatay na pulis at ano man pong tulong na aming makakaya ay amin pong ipaaabot sa inyo,” Eleazar said.
As of July 31, the PNPHS recorded 106 new cases bringing the total of cases to 30,434 with 1,144 counted active cases. Meanwhile, 49 recoveries were also noted, raising the total recovered personnel to 29,206 or 95-percent recovery rate.
Further, a total 43,532 or 19.86 percent of PNP personnel are now fully vaccinated while 48,993 personnel have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
