The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) marked its 34th Founding Anniversary with a powerful declaration: the agency is no longer just a fire protection unit, but a dynamic, multi-capacity organization poised to respond to both man-made and natural disasters.
During a three-day national conference from July 29 to 31, BFP Chief Fire Director Jesus Fernandez convened all regional directors to discuss strategies in expanding the bureau’s mandate.
The sessions focused on strengthening BFP’s evolving role in public safety, emergency response, and disaster resilience.Capping off the event was the 2025 “Musika Laban sa Sunog” Battle of the Bands, a unique musical competition that brought together firefighter-musicians from across the country.
More than a celebration of talent, the event served as a creative platform to promote fire safety, build camaraderie, and amplify the bureau’s advocacy through art.“Our firefighters are not just lifesavers—they’re artists, advocates, and community leaders,” Fernandez said. “This musical initiative reflects our evolving identity and our deeper engagement with the people we serve.”
Senior Superintendent Bonifacio Carta, chief of the Fire Public Information Office, highlighted the event as a fusion of passion, discipline, and public service.
“Through music, we’re able to connect with communities and reinforce our mission in a more resonant way,” he added.The night’s big winner was the Soulfire Band of BFP Region 12, who took home the grand prize of ₱100,000.
Dagitab Band from CALABARZON secured the first runner-up spot and ₱60,000, while Ember of 8 Band from Region 8 landed third with ₱40,000.
Fernandez praised all the performers, saying their original compositions and heartfelt performances were a testament to the bureau’s dedication to both service and creativity. “You showed that our mission lives not only in action but also in song,” he said.
