THE local government of Manila managed to finish their distribution of the national government’s cash assistance to around 380,820 families in only about 16 days.
According to Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) Director Ma. Asuncion Fugoso, each family received P4,000 worth of cash from August 11 to August 26 as financial support after the capital city was again placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
The distribution was guaranteed and manifested under the Bayanihan Act 1 and 2, which further provided financial aid to those severely affected by the most stringent community lockdown.
Pusuant to the Joint Memorandum Circular issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of National Defense (DND), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the MDSW had the authority to distribute the cash aid to its expected beneficiaries including transport groups, vulnerable groups such as individuals with disabilities and solo parents, and affected families residing in Manila.
As of August 26, the MDSW has reported that 369,218 families in District 1 to 6 including Baseco Compound, have already received their cash aid which sums up to P1,467,872,000 worth of funds.
Meanwhile, 10,256 families classified under the transportation sector have also received their financial aid amounting to a total of P41,024,000 and 1,346 families in vulnerable groups with a total of P5,384,000, bringing the total number of funds distributed to all six cities and priority groups to P1,523,280,000.
