VP Sara appears at the House inquiry on drug war killings; Duterte threatens to punch De Lima

VICE President Sara Duterte appeared during a hearing of the House Quad Committee, where her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was being questioned by lawmakers about the bloody drug war conducted under his administration.

The Vice President arrived around 4:30 p.m., just as her father was responding to questions from the legislators.

Earlier, VP Sara had challenged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to come to the Philippines to investigate the former President for alleged crimes against humanity related to the drug war killings.

Duterte threatens to punch De Lima

Meanwhile, former President Duterte sat next to former Senator Leila de Lima, and at one point, he gestured as if he might punch her after she criticized some of his statements.

Following heated interpellation from Rep. Ramon Gutierrez, De Lima requested a few minutes to comment on some of the former President’s statements.

“I know the former President, the former Mayor. So, he is lying,” said De Lima.

“He’s changed his hairstyle; I didn’t recognize him,” Duterte quickly responded.

When reminded by the committee not to answer without being called on, Duterte appeared to prepare to punch the former senator.

As of this report, the committee investigation had been ongoing for almost nine hours.
