Remulla announces PBBM’s directive to intensify fight against illegal drugs

DEPARTMENT of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has reported that the government will closely monitor entry points for illegal drugs as part of a strengthened campaign against narcotics.

In a recent meeting at Malacañang, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed the DILG, the Department of Justice, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Philippine National Police to enhance their collaboration in combating illegal drugs.

According to Remulla, the administration has identified key drug transit points that require strict monitoring to disrupt the supply chain effectively.

“The main control points to focus on are the Manila International Container Port, Subic, and PHIVIDEC in Cagayan,” he stated.

Remulla also shared the administration’s plans to tackle major players in the illegal drug trade, address the use of cryptocurrency for concealing transactions, and curb drug activities linked to the Muntinlupa City Jail.

To further disrupt drug trade within detention facilities, the President has ordered the transfer of 200 high-value inmates from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City to a newly designated maximum-security facility.
