THE province of Bulacan now has seven confirmed COVID-19 Delta variant cases after another three cases were recorded on Friday.
This is expected to increase due to the speed of the variant’s transmission following the continuous increase of COVID-19 cases in the province.
According to the updated data of the Bulacan COVID-19 Provincial Task Force (PTF), the three new positive Delta variants were from the towns of Pandi, Guiguinto and Malolos City, while the previous cases were from San Ildefonso, Plaridel, Sta Maria and City of San Jose Del Monte.
According to PTF Response Cluster Head Dr. Hjordis Marushka Celis, continued contact tracing on the new Delta positive variants were conducted in accordance with the strict directive of Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando to be vigilant and tighten the initiatives for preventive measures.
Earlier, the Bulacan PTF chaired by Gov. Fernando presumed that the new COVID-19 active cases reported were considered as infection caused by the new variant due to its rapid increase in just about two weeks.
Earlier, Fernando appealed to the national government to subject the province to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) status with some restrictions or Modified ECQ with heightened restrictions.
But during an emergency meeting with the mayors on Friday, it was agreed to maintain the province in General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions until August 15.
For some mayors like Pandi Mayor Enrico Roque, he agreed with the governor’s proposal after registering a Delta variant case in his town.
According to Roque, the new Delta variant detected has been transferred to the quarantine facility and his close contacts were tested negative.
“Halos majority na ng bayan sa Bulacan may Delta variant na, at nakikita ko na mas marami pa ang positive cases ng province ngayon compared nung April ECQ,” said Roque.
But Roque insisted that the people should not be alarmed because he said the local government is taking all preventive measures to ensure that the virus does not spread in Pandi town.
“As you can check sa data ng COVID-19 positive sa buong probinsiya, ang bayan ng Pandi pa rin ang isa sa pinaka-kokonting positive cases as of August 5, 2021,” Roque added.
“We are taking immediate actions and we have also directed the police and they are already carrying out restrictions and stricter border control measures especially on those entering and leaving Bulacan-Metro Manila,” said Gov. Fernando.
