PNP logs 125th COVID-19 fatality; new infections drop further

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) logged its 125th COVID-19 fatality, a senior police officer who succumbed to COVID-19 and hypertension on November 8.

The deceased, a 54-year old senior officer assigned to a national support unit and stationed in the Bicol region, tested positive for COVID-19 during RT-PCR tests conducted last November 1.

The patient succumbed while undergoing treatment in a hospital on November 8.

It is with a heavy heart that I express the deepest condolences of the PNP to the orphaned family of the PNP’s 125th COVID-19 fatality,” PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar, said.

However, the PNP Health Service reported that there was a significant drop in new COVID-19 infections in the PNP over the past five days when it registered a single-digit figure today.

On Wednesday, only nine new confirmed cases were recorded with 29 new recoveries adding up to 261 active cases.

The PNP tallied 42,047 total confirmed cases, 41,661 of whom have since recovered and restored to full-duty status.

Meanwhile, about 91.27 percent or 204,728 of PNP personnel are fully protected with the required vaccine doses against COVID-19 while 7.50 percent or 16,833 personnel have received their first doses.

This means only 1.23 percent or 2,751 personnel have yet to receive the vaccines.
