THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 25 police officers to the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) to bolster the security detail of Vice President Sara Duterte amid concerns over a potential recall of military personnel assigned to the unit.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo confirmed the deployment, which followed a request from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“The AFP requested police personnel for Vice President Duterte’s security,” Fajardo said. When asked about the rationale behind the request, she explained, “That was, I think, triggered by the possible recall of some of the AFP personnel assigned to the VPSPG as a result of what happened last Saturday.”
Fajardo did not elaborate on the specific incident that prompted the potential personnel adjustment.
However, she clarified that the deployment of the 25 officers took place on Tuesday to ensure uninterrupted security coverage for the Vice President.
The VPSPG is responsible for safeguarding the Vice President and her immediate family, working in coordination with both the PNP and AFP.
