AROUND 998 police personnel are currently undergoing a refresher course for them to serve as Board of Election iIspectors (BEIs) in 10 areas in Mindanao that will be placed under the control of hte Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Philippine National Police (PNP) Director for Operations, Maj. Gen. Val De Leon, who is also Deputy Commander of the Secuirty Task Force on National and Local Elections, said this is part of the PNP’s preparations just in case the teachers will be out from serving as BEIs out of fear for their safety.
De Leon said majority of these policemen have served as BEIs in past elections and already have enough experience.
As of now, the PNP has yet to receive a request from the Comelec to deploy police BEIs but assured that the police is ready in case their services is needed.
