The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday, February 19, to discuss the petition to increase the minimum jeepney fare to ₱15.
“‘Yung pending [na petisyon], may hearing kami sa February 19, 2025. Ito ‘yung pending pa noong 2023, kung saan nagbigay lang ang Board ng provisional increase. [The pending petition will have a hearing on February 19, 2025. This was filed back in 2023, during which the Board only granted a provisional increase],” said LTFRB Technical Division Head Joel Bolano in a radio interview.
“Ang petisyon ay gawing P15 ang minimum fare mula sa kasalukuyang P13. [The petition seeks to raise the minimum fare from the current ₱13 to ₱15],” he added.
In October 2023, the LTFRB approved a ₱1 provisional fare increase, raising the minimum fare from ₱12 to ₱13 for traditional jeepneys and from ₱14 to ₱15 for modern jeepneys.
The LTFRB is currently reviewing petitions from various transport groups requesting a fare hike due to rising fuel costs and the increasing prices of spare parts.
“The LTFRB is reviewing the petition thoroughly and will consider all relevant factors, including fuel price trends, inflation rates, and the overall economic impact on the riding public,” the agency stated.
However, the LTFRB emphasized the importance of considering the fare hike’s impact on commuters and the country’s inflation rate.
