Duterte to decide on new PNP chief today

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will decide today on who will become the next chief of the country’s 220,000-strong Philippine National Police (PNP).

The announcement as to who will succeed current PNP Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos will be made by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año, who is also the chairman of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) once the appointment papers are signed by the president.

However, he disclosed that there is no official document released yet by the Palace.

As per the process, the Office of the President will send a letter to the chairman of the Napolcom, who is Secretary Año, to confirm the name of the official recommended to replace the retiring PNP chief.

PGen. Carlos is set to retire as PNP Chief at the mandatory retirement age of 56 this coming Sunday, May 8, 2022.
