Duterte ready to hang himself over allegations of bribes from drug lords

FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte is reportedly ready to hang himself and remove all his family members from their positions if former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s allegations are proven true—that he received billions of pesos from drug lords.

During a House Quad Committee hearing on the previous administration’s drug war, Trillanes presented what he claimed were documents or a money trail showing bank account records and the alleged amounts received by Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte from a group of drug lords.

Allegedly, over PHP 2 billion was deposited into these bank accounts.

Duterte expressed his willingness to sign a waiver to open the mentioned bank accounts.

“I will sign the document. But if there’s even an iota of truth in what he’s saying, I will hang myself in your presence. I will invite you all to witness it,” Duterte stated.

“If there is even a single shred of truth, I will resign, and I will ask my daughter and every member of my family to resign. That is my guarantee, and I will hang myself,” he added.

However, he also said that if it’s proven he is lying, he is willing to hang himself, but Trillanes should join him.

“If I’m lying and my statements are proven false, if there’s even a sliver of truth, I’ll hang myself. In the same manner, if I hang myself, Trillanes should go with me,” Duterte said.

The hearing became tense as Trillanes challenged Duterte to sign the waiver on the spot to open his bank accounts.

“What’s the trade-off, Sir? Should I slap him (Trillanes) in public?” Duterte said heatedly, as he picked up the microphone, seemingly ready to throw it at Trillanes.

Duterte was also questioned about the drug smuggling case involving his son, Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte, and Atty. Mans Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte.

“If they’re really involved in drug smuggling, they should be prosecuted in court. And if convicted, they should serve a sentence in jail”.
