DOH and PhilHealth urge healthy Holiday habits for Filipinos

THE Department of Health (DOH) is encouraging Filipinos to enjoy fresh and healthy meals during Christmas parties to make the holiday season more enjoyable and safe.

The DOH advises against overeating, particularly foods high in sugar, fats, and oil. It also reminds the public to check the expiration dates of ingredients and ensure food is cooked thoroughly. Leftovers should be properly stored in the refrigerator to avoid spoilage and contamination.

The agency also emphasized that minors, pregnant women, and drivers should steer clear of alcoholic beverages during the festivities.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) echoed the reminders, warning that excessive consumption of sweets can lead to a spike in blood sugar levels.

“Register with PhilHealth Konsulta to access services and medicines for diabetes,” PhilHealth advised.

Additionally, PhilHealth highlighted the importance of regular exercise and avoiding smoking to help maintain a healthy weight and normal blood pressure during the holiday season.
