A changed of tone could be the path to freedom for detained Senator Leila De Lima after convicted drug lord who was in trial on Monday recants statement about lawmaker’s laundering ‘grease’ money inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in support for her campaign in 2016.

De Lima’s lawyer Atty. Boni Tacardon said Vicente Sy has denied that he gave a large amount of money as donation for her campaign in the 2016 senatorial elections.

He even belied that he talked to De Lima inside a secured location inside the Bilibid Prison.

It will be recalled that Sy first said that he contributed P500,000 in 2012, but when the defense side questioned the convicted drug lord, he withdrew his initial statement.

The prosecution presented PAO lawyer Rigel Salvador and said that he was the only notary in Jaybee Sebastian’s sworn statement and admitted that he did not know anything about de Lima’s alleged involvement in drug transactions inside Bilibid.

Even Dennis Alfonso, an employee of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said that when they joined Oplan Galugad inside the national jail, they did not find any evidence to convince de Lima of the allegations against her.

A court resolution is still pending for two separate motions for bail filed by the senator’s camp.
