“He is at his best in the boxing ring, but probably not as good elsewhere.”
This was what presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing, while saying that “We wish all Filipinos good luck in whatever they do best.”
The top Palace official said boxing is the only thing that Senator Manny Pacquiao is good at, and wished the former world boxing champion good luck in his upcoming fight against formidable World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Errol Spence.
Since February, Pacquiao has been at odds with the administration over attempts to ease him out of the ruling party PDP-Laban where he sits as its President. Party in-fighting has escalated in the succeeding months, compelling the former pound-for-pound boxing champ turned Senator to “go against the tide.”
Pacquiao recently issued nasty remarks alleging corruption in government agencies involving expenses in COVID-19 response such as personal protective equipment, antigen test, and distribution of cash aid to low-income families dubbed as the Social Amelioration Program (SAP),
The lawmaker made the accusations after President Rodrigo Duterte dared him to pinpoint which government agencies were involved in corruption.
Roque, however, shrugged off Pacquiao’s “explosive” accusations by aptly referring to his revelations as no more than a “watusi,” a traditional firecracker deemed to yield the least impact among other types of explosives.
