AirAsia Digital Launched as a Travel Tech Super App

Showing their true passion for open innovation and entrepreneurship, AirAsia Group rebrands RedBeat Ventures to be known as AirAsia Digital. As the digital venture arm of the airline group established in 2018, AirAsia Digital capitalizes on its mother company’s physical and digital assets to create an ecosystem of businesses with the aim of connecting with their customers in their everyday life.

The new AirAsia entity will oversee all of the airline’s digital brands from travel and lifestyle to logistics, fintech, marketplace, and connectivity. With investments in non-airline technology sectors, AirAsia Digital complements the airline’s vision towards becoming a global travel tech company by building a super app platform.

AirAsia Digital has three (03) main pillars: Venture Builder, RedBeat Academy, and Data Centre.

Venture Builder incubates and grows strategic businesses, some of which are spinoffs from AirAsia’s business units. In collaboration with Google, RedBeat Academy trains and produces a steady pool of software engineers, data scientists, and other digital experts aimed at filling and boosting the talent gaps across the ASEAN region. Data Centre acts as the data consultancy department of AirAsia Digital that provides a range of services to include data governance, data engineering, and data analytics.

In a digital media briefing held in Malaysia and attended by members of the press across Southeast Asia last 25 September 2020, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes shared his plans of expanding their reach of the super app in the Philippines.

“We are starting to build the (AirAsia Digital) content for the Philippines. Logistics and hotel supplies are opening, and we are very excited. Currently, looking for local partners. The digital nature of our business is really fitted to the Philippines, especially in the logistics, fintech, and eCommerce platforms. Starting today, the Philippines is open for business for us,” according to Fernandes.
