THE country’s top cop reminded all police chiefs and unit heads to strictly monitor and supervise the activities of all personnel.
This is to instill discipline among the ranks and ensure that they will not get involved in unlawful actions, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar.
He said the instructions were also in line with the directive and guidance of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año for the PNP leadership to instill discipline in the PNP.
“We will abide by the directive and guidance of our SILG Secretary Eduardo Año and further instill discipline and professionalism on our police personnel. Indeed, strict supervision is what we need to cleanse our ranks of erring personnel,” said PGen Eleazar.
He added, “I believe members of our organization holding high posts are professional and competent to serve as good examples to their subordinates.”
SILG Año’s order followed recent incidents involving police officers, including the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old woman in Fairview, Quezon City perpetrated by Police Master Sergeant Hensie Zinampan who has already been charged criminally and administratively for the killing.
The DILG Secretary also tasked the PNP to fast-track the resolution of administrative cases against erring police officers.
PGen Eleazar assured the organization would determine how it can further expedite the investigation and resolution of administrative cases.
According to the PNP Chief, Internal Affairs Service (IAS) Inspector General Atty. Alfegar Triambulo that they can finish the hearings on the case of grave misconduct against Zinampan in three to four weeks.
“I assure the public that we will be transparent in providing updates on this case and cases involving other rogue police officers,” he said.
