A new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility in Leganes, Iloilo is expected to strengthen energy security across Panay Island while supporting the region’s growing economy, tourism industry and expanding communities.
The Isla Group inaugurated its new LPG terminal in Barangay Bigke, a project designed to improve the reliability of fuel supply for households, businesses and industries across Panay and nearby islands.
The new facility comes as Panay continues to experience rapid economic growth, driven by Iloilo City’s urban expansion, Boracay’s thriving tourism sector, and increasing commercial activity in neighboring areas such as Roxas City and Guimaras. With energy demand steadily rising, the new plant is expected to provide a more stable LPG supply while reducing the risk of fuel disruptions.
Replacing the company’s older facility in Lapuz, the Leganes plant offers significantly larger storage capacity and improved operational capabilities. Its coastal location, complete with a deep-water jetty capable of accommodating LPG transport vessels, enables faster and more efficient fuel deliveries while serving as a strategic backup facility for the wider Visayas.
The terminal has enough storage capacity to supply the LPG needs of about 125,000 households, with room for future expansion as demand increases. Modern loading facilities and an automated cylinder-filling system are also expected to improve distribution efficiency, helping ensure a more dependable supply throughout the region.
Beyond improving energy access, the investment is expected to generate economic opportunities for Leganes. Isla Group said the facility will create jobs, stimulate local business activity and expose the local workforce to advanced technical skills through the operation of a modern energy terminal.
The company also emphasized that the plant was built with long-term growth in mind. While it will primarily support the Solane LPG brand, the facility has been designed to accommodate additional products and brands as market demand evolves.
Safety features were also integrated into the terminal, including a long-range CCTV surveillance system, emergency shutdown mechanisms and firefighting equipment that meet modern industry standards.
The Leganes project forms part of Isla Group’s broader investments in the country’s energy infrastructure. Earlier this year, the company opened a major LPG import terminal in Batangas capable of supplying more than two million households nationwide.
Company officials said the Leganes facility reflects their long-term commitment to supporting regional development by ensuring reliable, safe and scalable energy infrastructure for one of the Visayas’ fastest-growing economic hubs.
Government officials, local leaders and company executives attended the opening, including Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, Iloilo Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, Congresswoman Kathrynn Joyce Gorriceta, Leganes Mayor Junjun Jaen, Isla Petroleum & Gas Corporation CEO Tomoaki Asai, and Citadel Holdings President and CEO Jose Ricardo Delgado.
