Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Undersecretary Gilberto DC Cruz led a series of high-level security sweeps across Metro Manila’s primary gateways today, April 1, 2026, to ensure the safety of millions of Filipinos traveling for the Lenten break.
Under the direct instructions of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, the inspections at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), and Manila North Harbor Port (MNHP) serve as the centerpiece of “OPLAN Biyaheng Ayos Semana Santa 2026.” The coordinated effort aims to verify the strict implementation of security protocols as passenger volumes reach their annual peak.
At NAIA Terminal 3, Cruz oversaw the demonstration of two newly commissioned Explosive Detection Systems featuring Computed Tomography and an Automatic Tray Return System, technology designed to increase the speed and accuracy of baggage screening.
The inspection party, joined by airport security stakeholders, also visited specialized lanes and lounges for Overseas Filipino Workers to monitor passenger welfare and ensure a seamless departure process.
Beyond technical audits, the OTS chief personally distributed “Go Bags” and safety literature to travelers at PITX and MNHP, emphasizing a culture of preparedness. He likewise reaffirmed that the agency’s intensified monitoring will continue throughout the holiday, maintaining that the convenience and protection of the public remain the government’s highest priority during this critical travel period.
