A PROPOSED bill where the national government will provide a monetary gift of P1 million to Filipinos who will reach 101 years old passed the House of Representatives on second reading.
In a viva voce voting in the plenary, House Bill 10647 that will provide amendments to the “Centenarians Act of 2016” was approved in order to provide additional benefits to “Filipino centenarians” and to also recognize the “octogenarians and nonagenarians” in the country.
Under the proposed measure, to be added to the present law is the provision of a P1 million cash gift for any Filipino who will reach 101 years old.
The handing out of “letter of felicitation” and “centenarian gift” of P100,000 for grandfathers and grandmothers who will reach 100 years old will likewise remain.
Meanwhile, the octogenarians (80 and 85 years old) and nonagenarians (90 and 95 years old) will be given the same letter of felicitation by the President of the Philippines and cash gift of P25,000.
The National Commission of Senior Citizens will serve as lead agency once the proposed bill is signed into law.
