THE Malasakit Movement’s party-list bid for accreditation was denied on Wednesday by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing that the Malasakit Movement’s bid was denied due to lack of merit since the group “failed to meet the requirement for a sectoral party-list organization” and the group was “unable to prove that they represent a marginalized and underrepresented sector.”
However, the accreditation of Mothers for Change as a party-list group was approved by the poll body, according to Jimenez.
Former Presidential Communications and Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary and ex-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Executive Director Mocha Uson and volleyball player Michelle Gumabao are the group’s first two nominees.
Both nominees, however, are not mothers.
Jimenez explained that the group met all requirements for a sectoral organization..
Former Metro Manila Development Authority spokesperson Celine Pialago, Malasakit Movement’s first nominee, in a statement, said they will avail of legal remedies as a result of their delistment.
“There are legal remedies for us to participate in the 2022 polls, and we leave it to our legal team,” the statement read.
