AN acting election officer in Samar was gunned down Thursday afternoon by a still unidentified assailant.
The victim was identified as James Diaz Maghanoy, 42 years old, acting election officer of the municipality of Lope de Vega in Catarman, Northern Samar.
Based on initial investigation, Maghanoy was on his way home aboard his motorcycle around 5 p.m. when he was shot multiple times by the suspect.
Although he was rushed to Northern Samar Provincial Hospital, doctors failed to revive Maghanoy due to the multiple gunshot wounds he suffered on his head and body.
Maghanoy’s death was strongly condemned by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and likewise appealed to the authorities to speed up the investigation on the incident.
“The entire Commission calls on the authorities to leave no stone unturned in its probe of the murder of Maghanoy, and to ensure that those responsible are brought swiftly to justice,” according to the Comelec.
