Prevent natural disasters, COVID-19 from dismantling NoKor economy, Kim urges

NORTH KOREA— President. Kim Jong Un on Friday called for an utmost effort in preventing any natural disasters and the country’s COVID-19 cases from dismantling their economy.

North Korea’s economy has been pummeled down by international sanctions, self-imposed border and movement lockdowns to curb the further spread of COVID-19, and the country faced seasonal heavy rainfalls which raised concerns in damaging the food supplies.

North Korea has not confirmed the number of COVID-19 cases in the country but has imposed strict movements and lockdowns and closed borders as a matter of national survival.

North Korea has turned down shipments of China’s Sinovac and doses of AstraZeneca vaccines and urged that these be donated to countries that need them.
