Flash floods caused by “Ida” wreaks havoc on NY; 44 killed

NEW YORK— A devastating flash flood caused by Hurricane Ida’s aftermath killed at least 44 people in New York on Thursday.

Recorded rainfall and flash flood warnings have left the streets of New York like a river and shut down subway services as water poured down the platforms.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled in LaGuardia and JFK airports, including Newark, where terminal services were engulfed by rainwaters.

New York and New Jersey’s major roads have been closed, including Manhattan and The Bronx and Queens, where cars have been submerged by water and forcing the fire department to rescue people.

According to Governor Phil Murphy, 23 people were found dead in New Jersey. He also added that the majority of these people were trapped inside their vehicles.

Hurricane Ida gushed a destruction trail up north after it hit Louisiana which brought severe flooding and tornadoes.

Both New York and New Jersey declared a State of Emergency and have urged residents to move to higher grounds as the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning in New York.
