Come April 17, 2021, popular actor Xian Lim will be back to his usual hosting chores for the upcoming 57th Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Lim has become a familiar fixture in hosting the annual pageant. It will be his sixth time to host the competition for exceptional beauties who will vie for the honor of representing the country in various international pageants.
His first hosting stint for the pageant was back in 2012, followed by hosting stints from 2014 up to 2017.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is being eyed as the female co-host of the pageant, which will have 39 official candidates vying for four crowns: Bb. Pilipinas International, Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental, Bb. Pilipinas Globe, and Bb. Pilipinas Grand International.
Last year’s coronation was cancelled because of the pandemic and the various community quarantines. To ensure safety, this year’s coronation night will be held under strict health protocols to be implemented at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and no audience will be allowed inside the coliseum.
The Miss Universe franchise is no longer handled by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), its home for the past 50 years. Starting 2019, the pageant is now being handled by the Miss Universe Philippines Organization.
The new organizers is led by Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup-Lee as national director. Jonas Gaffud, Aces and Queens founder and Empire PH head is Creative Director, while fashion designer Albery Andrada is Design Council Head.
Gazini Ganados was the last Bb. Pilipinas-Universe titleholder who represented the country during the 68th Miss Universe held in Atlanta, Georgia in December 8, 2019.
Morena beauty Gloria Diaz made history when she won the country’s very first Ms. Universe crown when she was a young 18-year-old stunner. The pageant was held in Miami Beach, Florida, USA.
Margarita “Margie” Moran followed suit 4 years later in the pageant held in Athens, Greece. Then, after 42 years, Pia Wurtzbach brought back the crown to Philippine shores by becoming Ms. Universe 2015 during the pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The last winner is none other than Catriona Gray in Ms. Universe 2018 held in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
