THE Stan Quezon Lady Spartans finally flashed its winning form during the 2021 Pia Cayetano Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) Season after beating the Pacific Water Queens, 69-54, on Sunday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Kath Araja led the Lady Spartans to victory with a spectacular all-around MVP-like performance after she knocked down 16 points, including five from downtown to go along with eight assists and four steals as her team bagged their first win after four unsuccessful games.
Quezon is currently running in fourth place in the standings, a full game behind third-place Taguig Lady Generals, who won over the Lady Spartans last Saturday, 58-50.
Quezon’s Jade Valenzuela scored 14 points and hauled seven rebounds, while Kristine Duran chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.
Quezon outscored Pacific Water, 16-10, in the third period, with the lead reaching 19 late, 69-50, on a triple by Valenzuela in the fourth.
Valenzuela and Duran had seven points apiece in the first half as the Lady Spartan jumped to a 33-30 halftime lead before Araja went berserk on both ends, where she knocked down three triples in the fourth canto.
Top scoring for Pacific Water were Jollina Go, who drilled in 22 points, and Snow Penaranda who canned 16 points and grabbed a massive 5 rebounds.
Pacific Water remains winless so far after four games this season.
