THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has announced Thursday that the voter registration in all areas placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will resume starting September 6, 2021.
In a statement, COMELEC said that the nationwide registration in zones under the second most stringent quarantine status will be opened every Monday to Saturday, including holidays, at 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, voter registration schedule in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) or lower lockdown classification remains at 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and holidays.
The Commission has instructed that any application should be submitted at the Office of the Election Officers (OEO) or in mall satellite registration sites.
Applications for (1) Reactivation; (2) Reactivation with Correction of Entries; (3) Reactivation with Transfer within the Same Locality; (4) Reactivation with Transfer within the Same Locality and Correction of Entries; and (5) Reactivation with Updating of Senior Citizens, Persons with Disability (PWDs) and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) Records may be submitted through email or an authorized representative.
Individuals willing to be duly recognized as voters may further check their schedule on the official digital platforms of COMELEC, in the bulletin boards across district, city, and municipal halls, and OEO should they want to apply through satellite registration.
According to COMELEC Director and spokesperson James Jimenez, the Commission was prompted to limit applicants and strictly observe the minimum health and safety protocols due to the woes and transmission it might cause during the registration.
“Our field personnel have been directed to conduct registration in MECQ areas in a limited capacity, and to use an appointment system but allow walk-in applicants through a strict numbering or other system,” Jimenez explained.
MECQ was imposed on the National Capital Region (NCR) alongside the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Aklan and Cebu, Lucena, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, and Cagayan de Oro cities until September 7 amid the surge of COVID-19 cases.
The COMELEC is expected to end the nationwide voter registration for the upcoming 2022 elections on September 30, 2021.
