A councilor from Umingan, Pangasinan, was killed after being shot by motorcycle-riding assailants in Barangay Lubong.
According to the initial report, the victim was identified as 59-year-old Ponciano Onia, who was serving his second term as a councilor.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two of his companions in the vehicle survived the attack.
The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to solve the councilor’s killing.
The victim’s family has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
Fellow councilors are mourning the loss of their colleague, and the municipal flag has been flown at half-staff in his honor.
