LABOR group Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) vows it will not let up in calling for a P470-increase in the daily minimum wage in Metro Manila.
In a press conference in Manila, TUCP President Raymund Mendoza said that they again filed a wage petition with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).
The new petition came after the RTWPB denied their petition for a P470 increase in the daily minimum wage of Metro Manila workers, while saying that the wage board has no heart.
The group was expecting that the wage board will grant the petition in the soonest possible time, but the reverse happened as the wage board quickly repealed the petition for a wage hike.
In its petition, the TUCP removed the phrase “across the board” but their petition for a P470 pay hike remains.
They said prices of products and services have already increased but the wages of workers remained the same.
The RTWPB earlier explained that the petition filed by the TUCP does not fall under its jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, the group again reiterated its call for the abolition of wage boards, saying it only favors the businessmen and not the workers.
It can be recalled that aside from Metro Manila, the TUCP also filed wag hike petitions for wage hikes in other regions of the country.
