Tremors jolt Davao region

THE Davao region was hit by two strong tremors, according to the state seismology agency.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), recorded one earthquake each in Davao Oriental and at waters off Davao Occidental Saturday morning

The magnitude 6.1 tectonic quake, earlier quoted by the Phivolcs as 6.5, was recorded at 10:26 am at about 275 kilometers away in the waters of Balut Island in Davao Occidental.

The quake had a depth of 33 kilometers.

No damages expected but aftershocks may still be possible. No threat of tsunami expected, Phivolcs said.

The Davao Oriental tremor, on the hand, happened a few hours earlier, where a magnitude 5.4 quake, also of tectonic origin, was felt in Baganga, Davao Oriental around 4:43 am.

Depth was recorded at 119 kilometers.
