TAIWAN has officially announced recently that they will escalate their budget for the defense sector in 2022, specifically for the purchase of new fighter jets costing $1.44 billion, as the country faces pressure from China’s forces.

China has pressured Taiwan by sending out warships and fighter jets seen circling around the southwest and southeast part of the island, while continuing on its claim that Taiwan is a territory of China.

Taiwan’s President Tsa Ing-Wen has proposed a military spending budget around T$471.1 billion ($16.89 billion) for 2022 which will start in January, with the budget for new fighter jets also included for next year.

The proposed budget must first be approved by the Taiwan Parliament but since President Tsai has majority of the Parliament, it is believed that this will be easier to approve in order to beef up Taiwan’s forces and thwart any of China’s military posturing.
