IT’S not enough for ‘Ang Probinsyano’ Party list Representative Ronnie Ong the apologies made by the Department of Education (DepED) for one of its teachers “body-shaming” actress/philanthropist Angel Locsin.
Ong said, the teacher should be given appropriate punishment for doing so and for what she had said was unprofessional, a “serious display of ignorance” and “grievous negligence”.
The lawmaker insisted that DepEd should not just forget or ignored the issue for the reason that the credibility of that particular teacher is in questioned.
Ong stressed that not only should teachers be able to educate children on how to read books and write in papers but as well as to teach moral lessons, teach proper behavior and mutual respect.
“Dismissing this issue is something that cannot be ignored or just go away easily, it is completely wrong. People must be responsible for every action they make. Hindi pwedeng sorry lang, okay na,” Ong said.
Interestingly, the lower chamber had passed a law that bans “bullying”, particularly in schools, however, teachers themselves doesn’t know how to educate this to children.
Ong added the DepEd’s admission related to the child who was given a module is not a departmental sanction but of the teachers’ out of control teaching on blended learning due to pandemic.
“They should not use the honorable doctrine of ‘academic freedom’ as an excuse. School division heads and school principals are there to ensure that our teachers are properly supervised,” Ong stressed.
The Kapamilya actress has been recognized as a hero and philanthropist by various organizations for helping those in need, particularly those affected by disasters.
