THE seasonal closure of fishing grounds will be implemented by the provincial government of Batangas, various environment groups, government agencies and agriculture and fisheries sector on December 6 up to Febuary 6, 2021 in the towns of Talim, Nasugbu, Balayan and Tayabas coast.
Batangas Governor Dodo Mandanas said the activity will allow fish species such as “galunggong” and “matambaka” to lay eggs and reproduce and be given the opportunity to grow.
Also, the closure will help restore the vitality of fisheries, which will benefit the fishermen and people living along the Batangas coastline.
According to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Stock Assessment Program, the continuous implementation of seasonal closure will help increase fish catch volume compared to previous years.
The use of basnig, pukutan (pukot or paipot) and fine nets in the municipal waters of Batangas is not allowed.
Observance of fisheries ordinances and laws will be strictly monitored and violators will be apprehend by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine National Police – Batangas Police Provincial Office, PNP Maritime Group, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Air Force, BFAR regional and provincial offices, and Bantay Dagat.
