THE House of Representatives ratified a resolution calling for a “quarterly” release of the monthly “P500 social pension” to the country’s senior citizens instead of the usual six months.
Solons adopted House Resolution 2276 that urges the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to release said social pension to beneficiaries every three months.
The current practice in the releasing of the social pension is through a “semestral schedule” which, according to legislators is too long, considering that many senior citizens are still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
And because of the series of lockdowns and community quarantines, many Filipinos lost their livelihood, which explains why senior citizen dependents also experienced lack of financial assistance.
As a result, many senior citizens found it difficult to buy medicines, food and other important needs.
That is why as a form of support, the House urged the government through the DSWD to take the necessary measures to provide financial assistance to elderly pensioners.
