Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized the importance of family in her Christmas message, urging everyone to place their loved ones at the center of holiday celebrations.
“Sa kabila ng komersyalismo, ang pamilya pa rin ang sentro ng Paskong Pilipino. Christmas is for the family, no matter how one defines family,” Belmonte said.
The mayor acknowledged the diverse structures of modern families, noting that the traditional setup of parents and children has evolved. “There are families anchored by a grandparent or two, caring for their grandchildren whose parents are working abroad,” she added.
Belmonte also highlighted other forms of families, such as those led by single parents or blended families brought together by love. She recognized the growing acceptance of families headed by same-sex couples and even groups of close friends who form their own unique bonds.
“Then there are families led by two men or two women. There are families made up of friends,” she said.
Despite these evolving dynamics, Belmonte assured her constituents that the local government remains committed to supporting all families, regardless of their structure.
“This year, naayos natin ang dokumento ng mga mag-asawang deka-dekada na ang pagsasama. We provided LGBTQIA+ couples the right to decide for their partner when one is in need of medical attention,” she shared.
She also mentioned the city government’s efforts to assist overseas parents in guiding their children in Quezon City, ensuring that no family is left behind.
“This Christmas season, no matter where we are coming from, may we all find our way back to our family and rekindle the love we have for each other,” Belmonte said. She added that family serves as a source of strength and inspiration to face life’s challenges.
Mayor Belmonte’s heartfelt message is a reminder that, amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, the true essence of Christmas lies in the love and togetherness shared with family.
