EVEN Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte herself was not spared from being issued a traffic violation ticket from the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) for not wearing a helmet while biking.
Accoding to the Quezon City Public Information Office, the incident happened during the Cycle to End Violence Against Woment event held in the city.
It was a biking event organized to provide support to the call made by various sectors and organizations in order to end abuse against women.
Also accosted and issued a ticket was Cherie Atilano, President and CEO of AGREA Agricultural Systems International and one of the United Nations’ Food System Champions, also for not wearing a helmet.
Mayor Belmonte and Atilano were both fined P500 each by the DPOS.
The mayor said she lent her helmet to another biker who did not have a helmet.
However, she praised the DPOS personnel for their strict enforcement of the city’s traffic rules and regulations regardless of who committed the violation.
