Police nabs cop who sells illegal firearms in Bacolod City

MEMBERS of the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) arrested another policeman caught selling illegal firearms in Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City.

In a report from IMEG Director Police BGen. Oliver Enmodias, he identified the arrested police officer as Police Staff Sergeant Gerwin Arevalo Catolico, who is assigned at the Bacolod City Police Office.

According to PBGen. Enmodias, Catolico was a target of Criminal Case Operational Plan (COPLAN) “Pistola” due to his gun-running activities involving unlicensed firearms.

It was reported that Catolico’s operations run from Negros Occidental and in nearby provinces.

Confiscated from the suspect was caliber .45 pistol and is now facing charges of violating R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and also of the Omnibus Election Code.

Meanwhile, because of this incident, PNP Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos ordered an intensified campaign against loose firearms especially now that the elections is getting nearer.
