PNP to help in info drive for NG’s ramped-up vaccination program

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) police offices and units around the country were directed to help local government units (LGUs) convince their citizens to get the COVID-19 jabs.

According to PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar, the directive was issued as part of the police’s efforts to help in the national government’s ramped-up vaccination program.

Dr. Ted Herbosa, special adviser to the National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19, pointed out that there are still individuals in various sectors who are hesitant to get anti-COVID shots.

The police will continue to help our LGUs to convince the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Many are still afraid and hesitant, probably because of the wrong information they get about the vaccines,” PGen Eleazar said.

Now that the govenrment is ramping up the national vaccination drive, it should have a more widespread information and education campaign to convince our kababayan to go to vaccination sites and be vaccinated,” he added.

The Chief PNP said police units could utilize the power of social media in educating the public as police offices have online accounts where they can post useful and helpful information on the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.

PGen Eleazar emphasized that at present, the country has more supplies of COVID-19 vaccine doses compared to previous months and that the public should avail them in order to achieve herd immunity.

Having ourselves vaccinated against COVID-19 will be our primary contribution if we want to help lower the number of cases in the country. We are confident that the vaccines were thoroughly researched and were proven safe to use,” PGen Eleazar said.

LGUs have been urged to be more creative and innovative in encouraging the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The national government aims to vaccinate 70 percent of the population by the end of the year.
