THE country’s top cop said that although a lot of things need to be done, the government’s campaign against illegal drugs has notched gains since it started in 2016.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar acknowledged the war on drugs as one of the main achievements of the Duterte administration.
“Marami pa ang dapat gawin para tuluyang matuldukan ang paglaganap ng iligal na droga sa bansa pero sa ilalim ng administrasyong ito, marami tayong nahuling big-time at small-time drug suspects. Tons of illegal drugs have been seized since the war on drugs started in 2016,” said PGen. Eleazar.
“A number of drug-affected barangays have been cleared since July, 2016. Out of 42,045 barangays, 21,891 have been cleared. Ngayon lang nangyari ito sa kapanahunan ng Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” he said.
Government data shows that in the 200,632 anti-illegal drug operations conducted by the different law enforcement agencies since 2016, a total of 289,622 drug suspects were arrested while 6,117 suspects were killed.
The total value of illegal drugs and laboratory equipment confiscated in these operations was placed at P59.14 billion.
PGen. Eleazar vowed that the PNP would remain relentless in its anti-illegal drug operations and in its drive to put a stop to the illegal drug trade.
