The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued a warning against potential flash floods and landslides in certain areas of the country due to moderate to heavy rains brought about by three weather systems.
Despite these warnings, weather specialist Rhea Torres assured the public that the country would remain storm-free until the end of the month.
Torres explained that the convergence of hot and cold air, also known as the shear line, is affecting Visayas, Palawan, and Dinagat Islands, where overcast skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected to prevail. Similarly, the rest of Mindanao will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies—warm, humid winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” is causing cloudy skies with rains over Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela.
Pagasa added that while the three weather systems will not significantly impact Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, isolated light rains are possible in these areas within the next 24 hours due to “amihan.”
