Number of arrests for violating the Comelec gun ban now at 2,243

THE number of violators of the election gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reached 2,243 today.

These individuals were arrested at the 2,149 checkpoint operations set up by the Philippine National Police starting January 9, 2022 up to the present.

According to the records of the PNP Command Center, majority of those arrested were civilians at 2,159; 39 were security personnel, 14 were members of the PNP, nine are Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel, and 22 from other groups.

Leading the number of arrested individuals were from the National Capital Region (NCR), followed by Region 4-A, Region 7, Region 3 and Region 6.

Among the more than 1,700 confiscated materials included guns, knives, explosives and bullets.
