A MEMBER of the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) who received several awards before in the campaign versus illegal drugs was arrested due to estafa after becoming addicted to online sabong.
Operatives from the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 4 (SOU 4) arrested their own senior officers because of estafa and illegal gambling.
In a report of the PNP-DEG that reached Camp Crame, the suspect was identified as PLt. John Kevin Menes from the PNP-DEG-Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A, who received several commendations before for exemplary work on the campaign on illegal drugs.
Menes was arrested while playing e-sabong at the Pitmasters Live OCBS along Nagtahan in Ramon Magsaysay Blvd., Sta. Mesa, Manila yesterday.
This after he tried to take away the vehicle of his subordinate and pawned it for P170,000 that he can use as bet money for e-sabong.
Menes was charged with estafa by the person to whom he pawned the vehicle after it was recovered by the police.
It was also learned that Menes owes the e-sabong operator a total of P15,000.
Menes is now under restrictive custody by the PRO 4A in Camp Vicente Lim.
Aside from gambling, Menes also has in him the P500,000 buy-bust money that is part of his unit’s operational fund that remains unliquidated.
