BULACAN Governor Daniel Fernando suggested to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation to emulate the current technology used by Japan and China in the implementation of Radio-frequency identification (RFID).

This was the governor’s advice regarding the minimal problem in some RFIDs mainly in the NLEX toll plazas happened in the recent days after implementing the cashless transaction at all toll plazas that started on December 1.

After implementing the 100% used of RFID at NLEX toll plazas, there were several incidents that motorists had their problem with the use of RFID which has caused congestion and slow traffic at the NLEX entery/ exit tolls prompting Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian to suspend NLEX’s business permit in their jurisdiction.

The province of Bulacan has nine toll plazas wherein Gov. Fernando is also inevitably to worry regarding the RFID issue for his fellow Bulakenyos who were also extending their grievances through social media.

“Even before the cashless transaction was implemented, I was also a victim of this RFID particularly in NLEX, hindi mabasa ang RFID namin, urong-sulong kami. we were hampered hesitated before the sensor read …. Ang nakikita ko dito ay tila mahinang klase ng aparato ang mga ginamit na RFID kaya mayroong pagkakataon na hindi ito makabasa agad,” the governor said.

Fernando’s advice to NLEX is that the quality of the RFID unit installed should be of good quality, the unit must be made by Japan or China.

“Sa ibang bansa gaya ng Japan at China, malayo ka pa lang 5 meters away nari-read ng sensor ang papalapit na sasakyan.. ganun dapat ang NLEX,” said Fernando.

The governor said that big development awaits in the province as the P740-billion airport project is about to construct in Bulakan town plus the Mega City in Pandi town.

Meanwhile, Guiguinto Mayor Ambrosio “Boy” Cruz Jr., president of Bulacan Mayors League favored Mayor Gatchalian’s move but he will not also implement what the city mayor of Valenzuela did due to the fact that his town is only a secondary toll plaza from Balintawak toll plaza.

“It’s just a wake-up call para sa kanila ang ginawa ng Valenzuela, hindi lang naman ngayon nangyayari yan noon pa yan nararanasan na ng motorista ang problemang yan sa RFID…kailangan diyan ang agarang aksyon at solusyon at tiyaking hindi na mauulit,” according to Cruz.
