NBI Assistant Director Atty. Medardo de Lemos is new NBI officer in charge

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has a new officer-in-charge in the person of NBI Asst. Director Atty. Medardo de Lemos.

This was confirmed by Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crisping “Boying” Remulla through a Department Order.

De Lemos replaces former NBI OIC Director Eric Distor.

It was learned that de Lemos started working for the NBI since 1985 and has been Assistant Director for the past 12 years.

Upon the appointment of De Lemos, Remulla immediately conferred with the new NBI OIC regarding the suspicious deaths of a few inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

According to Atty. Mico Clavano of the DOJ Office of the Secretary, Remulla wanted to validate information presented regarding the deaths of eight high-profile inmates at the NBP and to find out more details.

It can be recalled that the NBI filed charges of murder at the DOJ against 22 police personnel of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) assigned at the Bureau of Corrections, in relation to the deaths of eight NBP inmates who earlier were declared to have supposedly died after contracting COVID-19.

Based on the NBI’s investigation, it seemed that COVID-19 was used to cover up the deaths of the inmates.

The NBI made the investigation upon orders of the DOJ last July 2020 after the death of Jaybee Sebastian, one of the high-profile inmates.
