THREE suspects who allegedly created a fake Facebook account under the name of Philippine National Police (PNP) Officer-in-Charge Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. were arrested by members of the Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) in Binangonan, Rizal.

According to PNP-ACG Officer-in-Charge BGen. Bowenn Joey Masauding, the suspects were caught by virtue of a Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD).

The PNP-ACG did not reveal the names of the suspects but mentioned that they were tracked down due to an intensified social media cyber patrolling and surveillance operations.

According to Masauding, the suspects created a fake Facebook account of the PNP OIC to be able to scam a complainant and extort money, particularly in relation to activities by the Police Community Relations Group.

The complainant went to the PNP-ACG to complain, and the team was able to secure a WSSECD from the court to be able to mount an operation.

The suspects face charges for violating RA 8484 or Access Devices Regulation Act and Section 6 of RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
