National ID should be enough to prove identity in all gov’t, private transactions — Palace EO

AN Executive Order was signed by the President that makes the national ID as enough proof of identity in all government and private transactions.

Executive Order (EO) 162, which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last Monday but was released only today, mandates that the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID and PhilSys Number (PSN) be recognized in all transactions in government offices and even in private establishments.

Malacañang emphasized in the EO that PhilSys was established in order to give all Filipinos enough and valid proof of their identity.

EO 162 pointed out that under RA 11055, PhilSys and PSN, whether in printed, electronic, or any other authenticated form, shall already be sufficient proof of identity and shall serve as an official government issued ID.

Presenting the national ID, according to the order, should be recognized and accepted in all transactions in all national government agencies, local government units, Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs), government financial institutions, and establishments in the private sector without the need to present any other ID or proof of identification.

The use of the national ID shall also be made in transactions involving access to social welfare benefits, applications for government-issued documents such as passports and driver’s license, transactions related to tax issues, voting registration and identification purposes and other government transactions.

It can be recalled that the Palace issued an earlier order on all government agencies to include in their systems and database the PhilSys ID, which will become effective in the coming months.
