THE Department of Health (DOH) logged only 2,671 new cases today, higher than yesterday’s 2,010, based on the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, February 16, 2022.
Overall, the number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now pegged at 3,644,597 cases.
Active cases continued its slide with only 68,829 cases today from yesterday’s 72,305. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
Recoveries from COVID-19 today, however, was down slightly to 6,130 cases from yesterday’s 6,293 count, pushing overall COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 3,520,545 cases.
In terms of deaths, a total of 77 died today from COVID-19 to increase the number of total deaths to 55,223 fatalities.
Positivity rate today, meanwhile, went down further to 9.6 percent from yesterday’s 10.4 percent and with 25,629 people tested.
Also, 93.2 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.
A total of 14 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 12 cases counted as recoveries.
Also, 62 cases tagged earlier as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
All laboratories were operational on February 14, 2022, and six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). According to data in the last 14 days, the six laboratories contribute, on average, 1.4 percent of samples tested and 1.7 percent of positive individuals.
The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
